Abstract

7 out of 10 of all employed Phds in Belgium work in services (public and private sector). In the services sector R&D labs are not prevailing. Does this imply that PhDs cannot employ acquired knowledge and skills? Our results from the 2006 OECD Careers of Doctorate Holders Survey in Belgium show that PhDs spend half of their time in FTE on R§D tasks with a strong accent on development tasks.
