Abstract

Six years on from the applicability of the GDPR and almost eight since its adoption, the GDPR has not been amended. The contentious negotiations leading up to its adoption have made multiple actors weary of discussions on the substance of the GDPR, with commissioner Reynders comparing the reopening of the GDPR to that of Pandora’s box. Resistance against amending the GDPR can equally be found in the Commission proposal on additional procedural rules relating to the enforcement of the GDPR. While several of the provisions in the proposed regulation bring significant changes to the framework envisioned by the GDPR, the Commission is adamant in proclaiming that the proposal merely complements it....
