Abstract

We present an interactive smart grid demonstration platform that illustrates the performance of our multi-agent-based system for exchanging renewable energy. The system implements the NRG-X-Change concept and uses real-life data for energy consumption. The NRG-X-Change protocol incentivizes the balance of local energy supply and demand and rewards prosumers for their renewable energy by relying on a novel digital currency that we call NRGcoin. Prosumers can maximize their profit by storing energy in batteries during overproduction. We illustrate the behavior of different smart grid scenarios of a typical neighborhood with 62 residential houses - 6 prosumers and 56 consumers. Houses produce energy from mini solar panels and store it in rechargeable batteries. Participants can interact with the demo by influencing energy consumption and production and installing battery storage, while analyzing in real-time the behavior of the energy market.
