Sounding Cartograms - Visible Invisible Traces of Urban Trajectories

Ann Eysermans, Kathleen Coessens

Research output: Book/ReportBookResearch

As artists we have upended the city to discover hidden qualities, experiences, codes, noises, smells. We have chosen to explore two recondite cartographies which have a clear influence upon the lives of city dwellers: thoses of the railways and the sewers, evident signs of human presence. The urban dweller is rarely aware of their continual perceptual and material impact. Rusting trains, sighting locomotives and wet railway trucks enter in dialogue with bubbling settling pits, whirling waste water and muggy smells. We have mapped them in artistic and experimental ways in this multimedia publication.
