Abstract
The landscape of video archives consists of firms that exhibit a wide variation of for-profit models that earn either indirect revenues from advertisers or direct revenues from the visitors, and non-profit models that (partially) obtain public funding. Between the two extreme scenarios of pure for-profit and pure non-profit models, an array of hybrids exist that combine public funding with private revenues. This article describes possible revenue models for archives on the continuum from purely non-profit to purely for-profit institutions. Various adoption scenarios and associated revenue models are estimated based on a quantitative survey among various possible user groups.
