Abstract
A re-evaluation of normative texts regarding the capability of women to sign contracts, dating from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, is necessary. These texts were drawn up in reference to the ius commune, which was not too disadvantageous for married women. Overall, the reception of ius commune marked a movement towards upgraded rights for women.
