Abstract

The early reception of Spinoza’s Tractatus Theologico-Politicus has rarely been studied as an instance of political philosophy. This conversation with Winfried Schröder (Philipps-Universität Marburg) explores the early German reception: from the sectarianism of Lutheran orthodoxy to the eclecticism of Christian Thomasius to clandestine libertas philosophandi.
