Abstract

What are the real costs and benefits of any future possible multipolar international order? The aim of this paper is to outline and analyse the benefits and costs of multipolarity beyond a simple dichotomisation by placing it in its current political and historical context. The paper concludes by asking what role multilateralism can play in managing the pros and cons of multipolarity.
