This study, commissioned by the Bureau for Standardization (NBN), examines the economic impact of the use of standards on the Belgian economy. NBN develops, publishes and disseminates standards; together with its sectoral operators, NBN serves as the Belgian knowledge hub of standardization. The research considers two perspectives: (1) a macro-economic perspective, measuring the impact of standards on indicators relating to the entire Belgian economy, such as GDP growth and productivity, and (2) a micro-economic perspective, identifying and analysing the impact of standards at the individual company level. By applying both perspectives, a comprehensive view of the economic impact of standards is obtained.
