Abstract
This policy brief outlines the position the author thinks the European Union should take with regard to the independence movement in Kosovo as well as general relations with the Western Balkans. It suggests that the EU should take a leadership role in establishing stability and peace in South East Europe, supporting a Kosovo with restricted sovereignty. The author also seeks to inform the EU citizens more effectively about the advantages of EU membership for the Balkan countries and the possible consequences of non-membership or prolonged deferment.
