title = "Validity of the MMPI-2 personality disorder scales",
abstract = "The validity of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 personality disorder scales (MMPI-2 PD scales; Somwaru, 1994 and Ben-Porath, 1995) was examined in clinical and forensic populations (n = 2900). Overall the scales showed good convergent validity. For a sub-sample of 176 subjects, a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV(-TR); American Psychological Association, 1994, 2000) diagnosis was available. The diagnostic efficiency statistics pointed out that the MMPI-2 personality disorder scales are accurate in negative test diagnoses, but can only be used as a screening device for the presence of specific diagnoses. Moreover, the MMPI-2 borderline personality disorder scale revealed a lack of specificity and the sensitivity of the narcissistic and histrionic personality disorder scale was extremely problematic.",
