Abstract

This paper aims to provide insights into the extension of interactive television and its formats with mobile applications tailored for children. We start by shedding light on media trends arising in Flanders and depict on some insights from child-computer interaction. Then we present a brief review of interactive television literature and present a conceptual model of iTV for children. We use this model to structure the research results of two case studies. These cases deal with prototypes, respectively a drawing application running on a tablet and a video application for mobile phones. We found several findings regarding the user experience and usability of these prototypes. Finally we use our model to reflect upon the concept of interactivity, participation and the closing of the feedback loop.
