Abstract
The notion on energetic performance of buildings- due to diverse reasons as the reduction of fossil fuels or the global warming - became an essential preoccupation. Goals and decrees about reducing CO2 emissions where emitted. It was noticed that the housing sector was the most energy consuming and that it is an important aspect to work on. Moreover, to deal with listed monuments versus energetic performance without jeopardizing their heritage values is a challenging priority. Indeed, the new energetic standards have been established for new buildings or “conventional” energetic renovation but are not adapted to heritage buildings. While paradoxically, these constructions are important energy consumers. Based on the observation that energetic renovation is not adapted to heritage buildings, the goal of this Master Thesis will present the steps to be followed and the conditions for renovating an historical building as well as the main problems that have to be solved. Some case studies and particular solutions will also be presented. The case study of a house located in the garden-district of Kapelleveld will be approached in order to demonstrate possible restoration strategies and revitalize the original character of the site together with the adjustments to actual needs in term of comfort for the inhabitants.
