Smoking, comorbidity, anxiety and depression in patients with multiple sclerosis and their relation woth motor and/or cognitive fatigue

Student thesis: Master's Thesis

Abstract

Our findings are indicating distinct associations for cognitive and motor fatigue in MS. While physical comorbidities appeared to be related to motor fatigue, depression affected both.
Longer longitudinal studies are needed in the future with a larger sample of the MS population to determine the impact of smoking and physical comorbidity on the severity of motor fatigue in MS. Hence, to have the possibility to analyze if the changes of the comorbidity score differ with the FSMC score for motor fatigue. In addition, it should be examined whether smoking cessation and treating comorbidities improve the motor fatigue severity over time.
