: Een onderzoek naar de mogelijkheden en aanbevelingen op vlak van valorisatie van de academische collectie in het bezit van de Vrije Universiteit Brussel

Abstract

A constantly growing, general tendency of consciousness around academical heritage has been
occurring in the academical world since the year 2000. Also, the Free University of Brussels (hereafter
VUB) stands in the midst of this process through for example this master’s thesis, using the valorization
of its academical collection.
By determining the current state of affairs of the VUB on this matter, five overarching and cohesive
themes where established which will serve as a starting point for this study. These themes provide a
structure from which a benchmarking on the literature study can be used, according to methods and
strategies that aim specifically on the valorization of academical heritage.
Because of this it will be possible to develop appropriate recommendations and methods that can help
the VUB with its valorization process. By means of a case-study on the subcollection of the biology
department at the VUB, these recommendations and methods will be tested and put into practice. In
this way it will be possible to make conclusions from recommendations through a general decision,
and to adapt them if necessary.
