Description
In this paper, the treatise Traité des trois imposteurs is presented and analyzed concerning the shift it represents in the tradition of clandestine libertins érudits- texts, towards the public critique, Enlightenment, and democracy, in the 'esprit' of Spinoza (which is the other title under which the treatise was diffused at the beginning of the 18th century. This treatise is also historically contextualized, and it is presented as an example of Radical Enlightenment. The role of the different researchers of the Centrum en Tijdschrift voor de studie van de Verlichting en het vrije denken in the study of this (and other) clandestine treatise(s) is underscored.Periode | 11 dec 2019 |
