Links of influence between multilingualism and international law in the UN environment

Activiteit: Talk or presentation at a conference

Since its creation, the United Nations has promoted the use of multilingualism and its contribution to the development of international law as necessary tools for achieving its objectives. However, the use of several languages in the UN system has a major influence on the drafting of international texts, not only in the choice of words used, but also in their application, effects and ratification. However, international law has not said its last word and is now trying to influence multilingualism by regulating its use in international texts. An essential question then arises: are these links of influence, of various kinds, at the root of the achievement or failure of UN objectives?
