I participated this past academic year (2023-2024) in the professional learning community (PLC) “School and professionalization policy” of the Flemish Forum for Educational Research (VFO).More information on the Flemish Forum for Educational Research (VFO): The Flemish Forum for Educational Research (VFO) wishes to be a forum for all those in Flanders who are actively involved in educational research, from whatever discipline. To this end, every university or university college involved in educational research is represented on our governing board, so that we can think and decide on important themes together.
To bring our members from different organizations together in a relevant way, we work with 'professional learning communities' (PLC) around more defined, specific research themes. Each PLC is the platform for a smaller group of VFO members to come together meaningfully around a specific theme, learn from each other, make arrangements to engage in co-creation, think about possible research projects, be able to respond together to calls (FWO, OBPWO, O&O, Leerpunt, ...), work out symposia for conferences, ... and anything else that this group of researchers themselves consider important.
More about the content and meetings last academic year (2024) in de PLC: The focus of this PLC is on the professional continuum, starting with teacher education, followed by induction, and further professionalization of teachers. Furthermore, we talk about aspects of school leadership, school and professional development policies with the goal of implementing educational policies with impact on the classroom floor. We started by discussing the theme of “Keeping (starting) teachers on board,” covering both theoretical frameworks and practical implications.
A subsequent consultation will take place during the Velov-Vfo study day on 'Quality learning resources' on February 7 2024 and will focus on the policies that a school can implement in that area. The subsequent consultation will take place on 25 March, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. in Leuven within walking distance of the train station. The focus will be on 'working on educational improvement' and on thinking about further forms of concrete cooperation.
