Het 'Belgian Ageing Studies project (BAS)' is opgestart door de VUB en de Hogeschool in de eerste jaren van 2000. Het team wijdt zich aan de studie rond de sociale aspecten van het verouderingsprojes. De focus ligt op sociale gerontologische kwesties, inclusief sociale, culturele en politieke participatie op oudere leeftijd, vrijwilligerswerk, inclusie en exclusie, leeftijdsvriendelijke omgevingen, het veiligheidsgevoel en het sociaal beleid naar de toekomst toe.
