Onderzoek binnen CORE is gericht op de analyse van het begrip recht, van juridische concepten en ideeën en van de verhouding tussen samenleving en recht. De voornaamste methode is bottom-up en empirisch, met een oog voor context en operationele aspecten van recht. Onderzoeksthema's zijn de verhouding tussen economy en recht (D. De ruysscher), operationeel recht (L. de Sutter) en diplomatie en recht (F. Dhondt).
