Dit onderzoeksproject zal zich concentreren op het ontwerpen en ontwikkelen van in situ elektrochemische benaderingen gecombineerd met oppervlakkarakterisering op micro- en nanometerniveau.
De eerste focus van het project is om beter inzicht te krijgen in de invloed van de lokale metaaloppervlakstructuur eigenschappen op het corrosiegedrag van metalen.
Dit onderzoek vereist nieuw ontwerp en ontwikkeling van nano- en micro-elektrochemische reactoren die ons in staat stellen om elektrochemische experimenten in combinatie met gelijktijdige analyses uit te voeren met behulp van in situ TEM, in situ synchrotron, in situ IR, in situ ion selectieve elektroden. De onderzoeksstrategie behelst het ontwerpen, bouwen, testen en modelleren van deze benaderingen.
Deze nieuwe aanpak wordt aanvankelijk gewijd aan corrosiestudies, maar wordt later uitgebreid naar andere elektrochemische systemen zoals elektrodepositie, elektrokatalyse, ..
