Onderzoek binnen de afdeling SKLA is zeer divers en daarom werd gekozen voor een aantal trefwoorden die samenvallen met de belangrijkste onderzoeksgebieden van de groep. 1. Humanisme en Renaissance (Marnix van Sint-Aldegonde, Justus Lipsius, Hadriaan Beverland); 2. Sociale en culturele studie van carmina; 3. Epigraphica Latina; 4. Ionische proza (taal en stijl); 5. Epistolografie (tweede helft van de 16e eeuw); 6. Epigrafie en papyrologie (inscripties van Apamea in Syrië, ostraca van Mons Claudianus en Monsporfyrieten in Egypte, sociale en economische geschiedenis van het Egyptische dorp Tebtynis in de Grieks-Romeinse periode, editie van Griekse papyri, Griekse agonistica). Naast SKLA ontwikkelen een aantal onderzoekseenheden ook onderzoek naar Latijnse en Griekse schrijvers, documenten en taal; Zoals er "Griekse en Latijnse Documenten" en het Interuniversiteitscentrum voor Renaissance en Humanisme, die gedetailleerd worden beschreven op de volgende pagina's.
