Over ons
LSTS is an interdisciplinary research group exploring the intersections of law, science, technology, ethics and society. Currently recognised as a Large Research Group, LSTS brings together expertise across a broad range of legal disciplines, from legal theory to positive law, with research recurrently intersecting with disciplines such as philosophy of law, science and technology, science and technology studies, computer science, digital sociology, communication studies and critical data studies.
LSTS is an internationally recognised centre of expertise in privacy and data protection law. More broadly, its research examines digitalisation, its societal implications and its regulation from European and global perspectives. Key areas of research include Artificial Intelligence, health, surveillance, discrimination, gender and cybersecurity.
LSTS brings together several specialised labs, including the Brussels Privacy Hub, the Brussels Laboratory for Data Protection and Privacy Impact Assessments, the Cyber and Data Security Lab, the Health and Ageing Law Lab, and the Fundamental Rights in a Changing World Lab. It also hosts Gender, Technology and Law, an initiative exploring the intersections of gender, technology and law through an interdisciplinary approach, primarily through seminars, research talks and book clubs.
