Over ons
De wetenschappelijke staf van het Liver Cell Biology Lab (LIVR) wordt gevormd door prof. Leo van Grunsven (hoofd van LIVR) en prof. Hendrik Reynaert (hoofd afdeling Gastro-enterologie van het UZ Brussel-ziekenhuis).
In het algemeen streven onderzoeksprojecten bij LIVR naar een betere karakterisering van de verschillende leverceltypen in gezonde en pathologische omstandigheden, en om een beter inzicht te krijgen in de pathogenese van leverfibrose en de mechanismen van leverregeneratie.
LIVR concentreert zich op een sterke interactie tussen de verschillende secties die de translationele aspecten van haar onderzoeksactiviteiten versterken.
Het LIVR-team onderzoekt:
- de mechanismen van ontwikkeling en resolutie van leverfibrose
- de identificatie van hepatische stellaatcelspecifieke biomarkers voor stagulatie van de leverfibrose
- de generatie van in vitro leverziektemodellen
- iPSC-afgeleide levercellen voor in vitro ziektemodellering
- de rol voor lever-progenitorcellen tijdens leverregeneratie
Lange termijn doelstellingen zijn:
- Bijdragen tot het begrip van mechanismen die betrokken zijn bij leverfibrose
- Ontdek therapeutische doelen voor chronische leverziekten waaronder niet-alcoholische leververvetting (NAFLD).
- Ontwikkeling van in-vitromodellen die representatief zijn voor chronische leveraandoeningen bij de mens
