Chronische pijn is een zeer complex fenomeen met een biopsychosociale achtergrond. Het is belangrijk om meer inzicht te verwerven in de mechanismen die bijdragen tot chroniciteit of die dit proces onderhouden. In dit opzicht is het van belang zowel de perifere als de centrale pijnmechanismes te bestuderen.
De oprichting van deze alliantie-onderzoeksgroep zal toelaten om de onderzoekscompetenties en klinische expertise die in de participerende partners aanwezig zijn, aan elkaar te koppelen. Deze samenwerking moet ons in staat stellen om meer inzicht te verwerven in de interactie tussen stoornissen in de sensorimotorische controle ter hoogte van de wervelzuil en pijn.
We zijn overtuigd dat we op deze manier kunnen bouwen aan een sterke gezamenlijke onderzoeksgroep wat ongetwijfeld zal leiden tot publicaties in hoog gerankte journals en ook de slagkracht zal vergroten om externe funding te verwerven.
