"De focus van de afdeling Fysiologie - Immunologie is gericht op de toepassing van fundamentele kennis en immunologische moleculaire biotechnologie voor een beter begrip, diagnose en behandeling van ziekten bij de mens, met name hematologische maligniteiten en solide tumoren. Moleculaire technieken en tools ontwikkeld in een onderzoekssetting worden beschikbaar gesteld voor de de diagnose en de follow-up van de patienten. Studies in pre -klinische dierlijke modellen zijn uitgevoerd, met als doel het ontwikkelen van strategieen voor immuun interventie in menselijke maligniteiten. Verschillende fase I-II klinische proeven met een 'actieve specifieke immunotherapie van kankerpatienten (dwz kanker vaccin proeven) zijn gestart en gecoordineerd door het Laboratorium voor Fysiologie-Immunologie."
