Onderzoeksinteresses
Ik ben een moleculair geneticus met een achtergrond in microbiële genetica en infectieziekten. Na mijn doctoraat ben ik overgestapt naar humane genetica en geneeskunde aan het UZ Brussel.
Mijn belangrijkste werkgebieden en interesses zijn oncogenetica (kanker) en cardiogenetica (erfelijke hartziekten). Op deze gebieden voer ik momenteel ook diagnostische analyses uit samen met NIPT en genepanelanalyses.
Ik ben vooral geïnteresseerd in het ophelderen van genetische “varianten van onbekende significantie” (VUS) om hun pathogene potentieel te begrijpen en zo betere zorg en management voor patiënten te kunnen bieden. In dit verband was ik één van de oprichters van het CLARITY-project (Clarifying the functional effect of genetic variants of unknown significance for improved patient therapy), waarin we onderzoeksprojecten uitvoeren naar deze onbekende varianten.
