Jorge Freddy Milian-Gómez is a legal scholar and multidisciplinary researcher specialising in the intersections of international law, agricultural and food law, environmental sustainability and human rights within food systems. He holds a Law degree from the Universidad Central “Marta Abreu” de Las Villas (UCLV) in Cuba, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude (2016). He further completed a postgraduate degree in Economic Law (2017), a Master of Laws with mention in Agricultural Law (2020) and a Master of Science at UCLV, focusing on the integration of environmental sciences, business, and social sciences for risk management and sustainability assessment (2021).

Jorge pursued dual PhD degrees, earning a PhD in Legal Sciences from UCLV and a PhD in Laws from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). His doctoral research has contributed to the legal analysis of the right to food, exploring its theoretical foundations, historical dimensions, and normative configuration within both international and national legal frameworks. Developing a new theory for the right to food interpretation. After completing his doctoral studies, he attained the academic rank of Full Professor (Ordinario) at the Universidad Central “Marta Abreu” de Las Villas (UCLV) in Cuba, where he taught and supervised research in agricultural law, food law, and fundamental rights. Subsequently, he joined as a Postdoctoral Researcher to the Private and Economic Law Department at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

His academic work adopts a multidisciplinary, globally contextualised approach that critically examines legal systems and policy frameworks governing agri-food systems, food sovereignty, access to justice for fundamental rights, food systems governance, environmental protection, international law, energy-food nexus and climate resilience.
