Margot Joris is a postdoctoral researcher in the field of citizenship education within the European context. Her current research focuses on the role of young people's political emotions in citizenship education in schools. Dr. Margot Joris is affiliated to the Brussels Research Centre for Innovation in Learning and Diversity (BILD) at the Department of Educational Sciences at VUB.

She was a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the University of Humanistic Studies in Utrecht, the Netherlands and holds a master and doctoral degree in Educational Sciences (PhD, KU Leuven).

Her research mainly focuses on the pedagogical role and responsibility of schools in citizenship education, and in particular on generating theoretical perspectives on and practical insights into how schools can help young people in becoming critical, active democratic citizens. 

She is currently part of the coordinating team at VUB of an Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership in School Education, focused on capacity building for using learning analytics for quality assurance in secondary schools (QUALAS). She is also involved in an Erasmus+ partnership in higher education (BRiDGE) that aims to support the European Union in bridging the gap between education policy research and policymaking.

She is part of Contested Identities, a European network on the history of European citizenship education, an active participant in international conferences on educational research and an enthusiastic speaker at  invited talks and lectures.
