A lot of progress has been made in the field of alternative methods to animal testing [recently often referred to as 'New Approach Methodologies (NAMs)'] and many valuable in vitro, ex vivo, in chemico, and in silico methods have been developed. Due to the rapid developments in this field, it can be challenging to find relevant and up-to-date information, therefore, the Flemish government launched the 'RE-Place' project in 2017 which aims to centralize the existing expertise on NAMs in Belgium in one database. In 2018, the Brussels government joined this project.
By providing a safe and reliable platform where scientists, industry, government, regulators and other relevant stakeholders can connect with each other, RE-Place aims to improve knowledge sharing on the use of these new technologies, which will: 1) lead to an increased use of NAMs, 2) stimulate it’s further development and 3) allow the identification of knowledge gaps, so that future funding can be better allocated.
