Het hoofddoel van mijn onderzoek is het ontwikkelen en toepassen van stamcelgebaseerde
in vitro modellen om hepatotoxiciteit alsook leverziektes te bestuderen. Mijn huidige focus ligt
op het bestuderen van niet-alcoholische leververvetting (NAFLD) en meer specifieke
niet-alcoholische steatohepatitis (NASH). Door gebruik te maken van alternative methoden (i.e.
geen dierproeven), proberen we NAFLD-specifieke mechanismen op te helderen en
anti-NASH-eigenschappen van nieuwe farmacologische compounds te evalueren. Dit onderzoek wordt uitgevoerd in het kader van een postdoctoraal mandaat van het Fonds
Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (FWO) en een 10% ZAP mandaat binnen de faculteit Farmacie en Geneeskunde
van de VUB.
