Description

The biennial Fernand Collin Prize is the most important award for a work written in Dutch on a legal subject at a Belgian university. The award was established in honour of Fernand Collin, professor at KU Leuven and later chairman of Kredietbank, now KBC, and is organised by the University Foundation.

The 2022 Fernand Collin Prize was awarded to Janek Tomasz Nowak for his doctoral thesis ‘Ambtshalve toepassing van EU-recht door de Belgische burgerlijke rechter’ (Ex officio application of EU law by Belgian civil courts), defended at KU Leuven on 19 February 2021. Professor Piet Van Nuffel was supervisor of the thesis and Professor Benoît Allemeersch was co-supervisor. The other members of the jury were Professor Koen Lenaerts, Professor Eric Dirix, Professor Beatrix Vanlerberghe, Professor Charlotte Pavillon and Professor Bart Krans. The thesis will be published by Intersentia in the course of 2023. An English language version may follow aftererwards.
