Enhancing the approach of healthcare professionals in dealing with psychosocial needs of chronically ill patients

Via a cross-sectional and ethnographic study we will firstly investigate the psychosocial wellbeing of diabetes patients and the facilitating and impeding factors in the way psychosocial needs of diabetes patients are actually addressed (or not) by healthcare professionals. Secondly, via the protocol of intervention mapping, we will systematically develop a theoretical and empirical based behavior change intervention proposal for patients and healthcare workers to optimize psychosocial support.
