A numerical simulation of sound wave from permeable surfaces

Samenvatting

The sound field generated by interaction between bodies in arbitrary motion and a subsonic flow is simulated using a computational aeroacoustics time domain method. A three dimensional hybrid method is used for the simulation. The method uses large eddy simulation (LES) to obtain the acoustic sources and the porous Ffowcs-Williams Hawkings (FW-H) analogy to propagate the acoustic waves. The contribution of the present paper is the assessment of the wave propagation method and its capability to be coupled with a CFD solver. An open cavity flow at a Mach number of 0:15 and a Reynolds number of Re = 1500 has been chosen as test case. From the computed flow field quantities , the overall sound pressure level is obtained for different observer positions. Some technical issues are observed in application of the porous FWH approach, when it is studied numerically.
