A place for education in contemporary philosophy of mathematics

Onderzoeksoutput: Chapterpeer review

The paper examines the possibility of a positive role for the educational perspective in progressive philosophy of mathematics. In particular, dialectalism in mathematics, as initiated by Imre Lakatos under the inspiration, among others, of the giant mathematics educator George Pólya, is looked into. In the course, important 'humanistic' issues such as fallibility or plausibility are addressed. Although still in order of further scrutinous development, the quasi-empiricism presented throughout to the very least proofs to be a viable contender to the various mainstream a priori philosophical positions concerning the nature of mathematical knowledge/science.
