Between families and elderly. Explaining poor relief practices in the Southern Low Countries: 1750-1830

Onderzoeksoutput: Unpublished paper

Samenvatting

In this paper, I will carry out a micro-analysis of the income and distribution practices for three poor relief institutions in the Southern Low Countries from 1750-1830. Using the method of record linkage, I’m able to link the distributions done by the institutions with the family circumstances of the paupers. This will be done for three parishes located in different rural ‘areas’ (social agrosystems) characterised by a different socio-economic constellation: ranging from peasant-economy towards agrarian capitalism. As the eighteenth and nineteenth century are known as a period of societal change, also temporal evolutions are– however in this stadium to a lesser degree – considered.
