Samenvatting

This publication presents the results of the Brussels Master Class 2015 “BRIDGES, Connections Where Lines Become Urban Spaces”, held from November 2nd to November 13th 2015, organised by Louise (Laboratory on Urbanism, Infrastructure and Ecologies, ULB Faculty of Architecture) and Cosmopolis – SteR* (Stedenbouw en Ruimtelijke planning, VUB) with the support of the Cabinet of the Minister in charge of Mobility and Public Works. Under guidance of architect Stephan Bendiks (Artgineering) and urban planner Aglaée Degros (Artgineering), 26 students and young practitioners in architecture and urbanism from all over Europe and Asia explored how to “bridge”, both literally and guratively, infrastructure, zoning urbanism and social segregation in exemplary sites in critical areas of the Belgian capital. The results are gathered in this publication and hope to stimulate action in Brussels, as well as inspire other European metropolises in tackling these challenges on their own territories.
