Samenvatting

Ever since early modern times, the university world has fascinated literary authors. Especially in 20th-century Anglo-American literature the so-called campus novel has established itself as a genre that offers a satirical dissection of the microcosm on campus. Yet campus fiction is also to be found in other languages and cultures, where it often interacts with popular Anglo-American examples.

The contributions to this trilingual volume consider the developments of the campus novel as a genre from an international perspective. Classical Anglo-American examples are addressed, as are less well-known novels from non-Anglophone countries. This volume also discusses hybrid and intermedial genres, including philosophical memoirs, detective novels, internet literature and blogs that transgress the borders between fact and fiction.

With a preface by Caroline Pauwels, rector of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
