abstract = "We present a comparison of different conductors and their resulting dissipative loss when used in metamaterials and plasmonic systems. For resonant metamaterials, we derive a figure-of-merit for the performance of conducting materials, and we apply it to metals, conducting oxides, high-Tc superconductors and graphene. For metamaterials, we discuss the dissipative loss of surface plasmon polaritons on graphene.",
