Samenvatting
Break up modes or resonance frequencies of loudspeaker cones form the main factor which degrades the regeneration of the sound in electro-acoustical systems. A brief introduction of the adverse effects of the membrane modes on the sound spectrum is presented and some remedies are discussed. The investigation is mainly dedicated to the effect of membrane geometry on these resonances. The frequency response of cones is studied using finite element analysis (FEA). The FE model is calibrated and verified experimentally through modal tests using a laser vibrometer along with associated hardware and software. The results provide more insight into the design of speaker cones in order to achieve superior frequency response for conventional loudspeakers
