Elements for a rhetoric of mathematics: How proofs can be convincing

Samenvatting

As the title of this paper indicates, I want to defend the thesis in this paper that (a) a rhetoric of mathematics is possible, and (b) it is necessary (or at least desirable) to formulate such a rhetoric in order to understand what happens when mathematical proofs turn up in everyday life.
