Evolution of close binaries with a B-type primary at birth

The observed distribution of mass ratios of Algol binaries cannot be explained as a result of conservative binary evolution: i.e. binary evolution without any loss of mass into interstellar space. Much more Algols have large mass ratios. Conservative binary evolution produces too many Algols with small mass ratios. The observed distribution of orbital periods of Algols is however fairly well reproduced by conservative binary evoltion. A liberal evolutionary scenario is proposed in which mass can be lost without loosing too much angular momentum.
