This fieldwork report is based on in depth semi-structured interviews conducted with civil society workers in Calais, Dunkirk and Brussels. It presents an overview of the ground conditions in the living sites in France and the motivations and aspirations that determine how and why people travel to the
UK. The report examines how state infrastructure, international migration policies, bilateral agreements and border patrols impact the decision-making and extreme conditions migrants face, exacerbating vulnerabilities faced by women and children as well. Finally, based on feedback from respondents, we present an overview of policy recommendations and highlight the need for safe and swift legal passage in this corridor.
