Samenvatting

The competitiveness of nations in high performance sports (HPS), which has been studied through comparative research on sport policies, has also been a relevant issue in sport sciences in the international field ( De Bosscher et al., 2003, 2008, 2015; Digel, 2002; Houlihan and Green, 2008). However, until a few years ago, there was no participation of Brazilian research groups in any international comparative study, focused on HPS policies.
In 2009, the study and research groups, Children and Youth Sport Training (GEPETIJ) and Sports Management (GEPAE), both from the Children and Adolescents Sport and Training Laboratory (LATECA) of the School of Physical Education and Sport of University of São Paulo (EEFEUSP), were asked, by the Belgian researcher Veerle De Bosscher, to take part in an international research project named ‘Competitiveness of Nations In High performance Sport – an international comparison of high performance sport policies and climate (2011–2012) – SPLISS 2.0’, as Brazilian representatives, coordinated by the Sport Policy factors Leading to International Sport Success (SPLISS) Consortium.
