Samenvatting

In the novels of the Wei, Jin and North and South Dynasties, there is a unique theme of men having erotic encounters with female fairies, ghosts or goddesses whom they meet by chance, and forming a romantic relationship. However, these relationships were short-lived and often ended with the man's departure. The women in these stories are all young, beautiful, and versatile, almost perfect and unearthly, a far from the reality of women in the war society of the time. The emergence of this kind of female image is a reflection of the men who are fond of new and old sex-hunting mentality and the psychological desire of men at the bottom of the society, and it is also closely related to the social and cultural background of the period of Wei, Jin, and North and South Dynasties, such as the decline of Confucian culture, the rise of metaphysics, the wide spread of Taoism, and the popularity of women's jealousy and other social and cultural backgrounds.
