Samenvatting

A novel type of catheter known as the long peripheral catheter (LPC) using the accelerated Seldinger technique (AST) has emerged in recent years, bridging the gap between short peripheral catheters and midline catheters (MC). When using the AST the introducer needle, guidewire, dilator, and catheter are combined into a single device. AST-LPC have led to challenges in clinical practice, clinical trials, guidelines and evidence based recommendations e.g. regarding the expected dwell time. The aim of this systematic review was to comprehensively evaluate the catheter-related outcomes associated with the utilization of AST for LPC insertion in adult patients encountering difficult intravenous access (DIVA).
