Samenvatting

Researchers in the literature have investigated the optimal design of arm inductors for Modular Multilevel Converters (MMCs). However, the verification of the optimal design based on simulation is rarely provided. Therefore, this paper presents a detailed analysis and simulation of the arm inductance and power losses of an arm inductor for an MMC. The result of this study shows that the flux density is within the saturation limit, and the simulated inductance is 1.909 mH while the required inductance is 2 mH. A high accuracy of 95.4% is found between simulation and desire inductance. Furthermore, the power losses are calculated and presented separately for each part of the inductor.
