Samenvatting

Early exposure to two languages seems to in uence language learning mechanisms and language aptitude in that memory skills are retained longer among early bilinguals than among late bilinguals. Future studies should aim at elucidating the exact nature of the relationship between early bilingualism and language aptitude by employing larger samples and possibly a longitudinal design.
The LLAMA test seems to be a valid measure of language skills, but the interpretation of analyses of its scores should be more cautious when it comes to the underlying structure and components measured by it.
