This presentation gives an overview of the attitudes, future role and knowledge of nursing students regarding euthanasia because of unbearable mental suffering (UMS euthanasia) in Belgium A descriptive survey using an online questionnaire was used All nursing students of a Belgian University College were contacted
Questions regarding euthanasia, their future role and current knowledge on the topic were discussed Most nursing students appeared positive towards UMS euthanasia, highlighted their important role within the euthanasia decision-making process but equally reported a lack of knowledge and skills Higher education needs to recognize this knowledge gap without losing sight on the broader context of end-of-life care to take adequate actions Keywords: euthanasia, nursing students, psychiatry, unbearable mental suffering,
