Samenvatting

Whitehead was one among several mathematical
physicists (using terminology that arose later in the century) who participated in the emergence
of modern relativity theory during the first two decades of the twentieth century, concurrent
with his work in mathematical logic and natural philosophy. His principal work in relativity
physics (R) includes a full general relativity theory, which appears to meet all observational
tests although it was later eclipsed by Einstein's theory.
